Year of the Mouse?

 
Yes, we caught record numbers of good trout for the 2009-2010 season.  Despite many of the wilder claims made by some after-market guides and accommodation providers, it wasn't always easy out there, but as usual, Strike Adventure Guides got our unfair share.

                Real Trout Food!                                 
There were a lot of 6-8lb+ fish around! And the trout are growing.  We are not convinced that the better than average size fish is totally the result of mice, but word has it that the beech trees of  Nelson Lakes and the Buller Region are flowering again right now, meaning more seed, more mice, good fishing in 2010-2011.  Heavy snowfalls in winters of 2007 and 2008 smashed forest canopy causing Mother Nature to kick-start the reproductive cycle of the native forest.

For those who disbelieve....

Here at Strike Adventure Fishing we are dedicated Catch & Release Anglers but they say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So when local hunting buddy, and occasional angler, Warren Plum, showed us this photo of a trout he caught late 2009, it was just too good not to share. Here is definitive and unequivocal proof that trout do eat mice, in this case 13 furry rodents. Is this a 9lb'er or an 8lb'er with a pound of mice inside?
