Saltwater Fishing Guide - Zane Mirfin

 MG 1474-792 MG 0599-619

Since boyhood, Zane Mirfin has always been an enthusiastic and passionate salt water fisho and boatie. Zane’s great-great-grandfather was the legendary Captain John Walker, who pioneered early maritime shipping routes in the northern South Island from the 1850’s onwards, with his cutter ‘Supply’ and as first Skipper of the ‘Lady Barkly’. Now Zane’s kids are 7th generation Tasman Bay snapper anglers.
For more than 30 years (since 1985), Zane has been a well-known New Zealand professional fly fishing guide, and the skills he has developed in this time are what you get when you climb aboard our boat Strike Adventure. Knowledge, experience, and attention to detail, are what you need to get the best out the northern South Island saltwater fishery, and Zane will assist you to year-round fishing success.
Zane has specialist knowledge of the South Island’s most bountiful and diverse salt water fishery, Golden Bay / Tasman Bay / Marlborough Sounds, understanding the weather, access, marine environment, and the fish species available. Highly proficient in jigging, soft plastics, trolling, lure casting, natural baits, and saltwater fly fishing, Zane especially enjoys guiding visiting anglers to the magic art of using artificial lures, jigs, and flies.
Zane achieved all his commercial maritime certification in 2011 with Skippers Ticket (SRL) and Maritime New Zealand registration, MNZ 134307. He also holds current workplace first aid qualifications and is a member of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association (NZPFGA).
Zane has personally fished throughout New Zealand, with international saltwater experience in Hawaii and California. His equatorial fishing adventures include Christmas Island for giant trevally & bonefish, and two trips to remote northern Queensland fishing inland waterways, blue water, and barrier reefs.
Whether you fish with Strike Adventure for a day or a week, you’ll find Zane, a patient and caring teacher, who is good fun out on the water, and dedicated to ensuring that you have a great time and enjoy maximum fishing success.
