Nelson has great sunny weather with nationally important lowland rivers open year round. Near the moderating temperature influence of the sea and close to civilisation, Nelson is a great place to have a day out on the river over winter for rainbow or brown trout if you are in the area.

Winter trips are May, June, July, August, September. May and September in particular can be very good fishing with mild air temperatures.
