Stillwater Fly Fishing - Lakes & River Tributaries

 MG 1922-368 MG 0471-17

There’s a world of fly fishing opportunity out there that most anglers don’t even know about. Zane Mirfin has been out there pioneering guide trips to the Last Best Places for decades, and his commercially registered boat MNZ134307, is the key to accessing some remarkable new water for visiting anglers.

Zane Mirfin Stillwater Fly Fishing Road Trip
Prefer to avoid long walks, slippery boulders, and competition with other anglers? Prefer to sight fish to plentiful cruising trout in stunningly beautiful scenery? Our Stillwater Road Trip might just be for you where we do more fishing and less walking using our commercially registered boat MNZ134307 ‘Strike Adventure’.

Our highly stable aluminium pontoon boat is set up for quietly and efficiently sight-fishing and stalking lake edges, weed beds, flats, and drop-offs. We also fish river mouths, tributary streams, rivers & spring creeks on foot using the boat for access. While fishing, our boat uses oars (extended rowlocks for standing guide to back-row and spot fish), poling with a 5 metre aluminium pole, or utilising our electric positioning motor to stalk the edges where the big fish hunt for food. It’s much like freshwater bonefishing – only the trout are a lot easier to catch.

We offer a great combination of exciting waters and fishing options across the Nelson and West Coast Districts. (We’ve even got a 15 day whole South Island Stillwater Road Trip booked in for March 2017 to include the Southern Lakes and lakes of the Mackenzie Basin).

The West Coast Stillwater fishing trip is 5 days long and starts and finishes in Nelson City. We’ll pick you up and show you the idyllic Nelson Lakes and Lake Brunner areas. We’ll fish shallow lake edges by boat each day, sometimes even two lakes in a day. There’s flexibility to add helicopter access wilderness rivers to the fishing programme too, if you so desire. There is huge fishing variety and you’ll never be flooded out like river fishing.

Our lakes are environmentally stable trout habitats, that have held up well to climate change and more extreme flooding events, and fish well throughout the year using dry fly, nymph, and streamer flies. You can do more days on request (lots of lakes & rivers to fish) or even meet us at Moana if you’re driving over from Christchurch.

We’ll stay at affordable accommodations, fish big days, and eat at local pubs and restaurants where you’ll get to experience real West Coasters and legendary hospitality.

Guide Rate Only NZ$900 per day: For 1-2 anglers. Includes all guiding, vehicle & boat transport. Customer pays accommodation and all meals etc, including for guide. Helicopter and/or campout fees extra (if required).
